Wartime Wedding

My grandparents Max and Marjorie got engaged and married while Max was on leave from the military. They definitely had known each other awhile, dated, met each others' families, etc. Then, the story goes that Max came home and proposed to Marjorie. They tried to figure out all the details quickly before Max had to leave. They weren't sure where to get married, but they decided on the SLC temple. As my grandmother puts it, "temple marriages weren't stressed as so important back then." As they thought about it, they were content with getting married at the temple. So, they got married and had something short like 24 or 36 hours together before Max was deployed again for military service in WWII. They had a happily ever after that lasted for decades while they were both alive. Since, they got married in the temple, it can last for an eternity more.

There's was certainly a military, wartime wedding done very well.

Honoring My Veterans

My (Leah's) sweet grandparents were dating when Pearl Harbor was bombed in 1941. Granpy signed up for the Navy and went off to war. The only thing that kept Granpy and Granny in touch was letters. Granpy would write home coded messages about what he could share. Granny would write regularly and encourage him. In 1944 they got married on a short furlough, they were married 2 days before Granpy went back to war. Just as a side note, Granny still writes so many letters today. She always sends birthday cards to everybody on their birthday, Christmas, Granpy's birthday, and any occasion she feels like. Since Granpy died twenty plus years ago, she sends everybody a memorial letter about him each year.
I'm especially grateful for the Veteran's who fight for us, so that we don't have to fight. Freedom isn't free. Our military are paying the cost right now, our Veteran's have already paid the cost. Thank you service men and women.

Honoring My Veterans

My (Leah's) sweet grandparents were dating when Pearl Harbor was bombed in 1941. Granpy signed up for the Navy---along with his brother and friends---and went off to war. "The distance that eventually separated [them] was bridged by letters they wrote to each other." He survived the Normandy invasions (writing a coded letter home to inform his family) and fought in southern France under General Patton. Granpy and Granny married during a short furlough in 1944 and enjoyed a two-day honeymoon before he had to report back to his ship, serving the remainder of the war in the Pacific Theatre. Throughout the war, Granny "wrote regularly, building his morale and encouraging him with her informative and humorous letters" (she still writes dozens of encouraging notes every year to loved ones, in his memory). ---excerpts were taken from a family history book

All four of our grandfathers were veterans, and many other ancestors have served their countries in past wars: Korean, WWII, WWI, American Civil War, etc. Below are a couple of scanned photos.
